Newly-appointed Ghana Football Association Referees Manager Alex Kotey says he was confident of landing the job.

The job has become vacant after the death of former FIFA referee L.O Laryea and four candidates were interviewed last month in a bid to select one to fill the position.

Mr. Kotey was however appointed to the role, beating off competition from referee Thomas Attifu and CM Astatsa following a rigorous recruitment process by the Association.

“There was no doubt in my mind that I was qualified for the job. Qualification is one aspect and experience is another. The qualification wasn’t a stumbling block for me when I applied even though the others had a Masters Degree," he told Happy FM.

The former FIFA referee remarked that the refereeing body should come together and work together to achieve the needed success.

“The issue of unity is very important. We must all come together and unite to able to work on one common ground”.

Alex Kotey, a 2006 SWAG (Sports Writers Association of Ghana) Referee of the Year, has worked as a Referees Instructor, Referee Assessor and also a Match Commissioner.

The Referees Manager will head the Refereeing Department of the GFA and shall report to the General Secretary.
