ALGERIA have a new manager in Milovan Rajevac and renewed hope that they can lift the trophy for the first time since 1990.

Bags of Premier League experience in the shape of Riyad Mayhez, Islam Slimani and Sofiane Feghouli will be the key to their fortunes in the Gabon.

Last time out two Wilfried Bony goals for the Ivory Coast did for them in the last eight.

Who are Algeria’s best players?

Riyad

Mahrez made his international debut for Algeria in 2014 and played in the 2014 World Cup and the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

At the 2014 World Cup finals he scored against South Korea and Russia, and had a header disallowed against Germany.

In Algeria’s opening match of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, Slimani scored the final goal in a 3–1 victory over South Africa.

Milo

Milovan Rajevac, aged 62, took over the reins in June, replacing interim manager Nabil Neghiz who held the job after Christian Gourcuff stepped down from his position.

Rajevac previously led Ghana to a second place in the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola after losing 1-0 to Egypt in the final.

He also led the Black Stars to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa where they lost to Uruguay on penalties.

Rajevac has had unsuccessful spells with Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia and the Qatar national team. He previously led Borac CačCk and Vojvodina in Serbia.

What is Algeria's history in the ACN?

Algeria were champions in 1990, when they hosted the competition. They beat Nigeria 1-0 to lift the trophy.

Playing elsewhere, they have never got past the quarter-final stage.

They reached the last eight in 1996, 2000, 2004 and 2015.

What are Algeria's odds in the ACN?

Algeria are 9-1 to win the tournament (get the latest). It's difficult to see how they can get the better of, say, leading lights Ivory Coast and Senegal, the latter of whom they also face in the group stage.

Much depends on the Leicester City pair of Riyad Mahrez and Islan Slamini staying fit and firing on all cylinders but another quarter-final place looks the most likely outcome.
