Goalkeeper Isaac Amoako has relinquished his captaincy at Asante Kotoko saying he wants to focus more on his form.

The 29-year-old was knocked off his perch as the number one goalkeeper by Burkinabe Soulama Abdoulaye in the side’s surge to Premier League glory last season.

The Ghana international now says he is looking to regain that starting slot in the team and thus needs to offload all distractions including the one which comes with being a captain.

“I want to focus on my performance ahead of next season’s Glo Premier League that’s what informed my decision,” he said.

“My duties as a captain, especially those that are off the pitch work is not helping me to pay maximum attention to my form at a time that I want to be the number one again here at Kotoko.”

Amoako joined Kotoko in 2007 from BA United and hopes to play more games this term especially with the side’s return to the Caf Champions League.

Ohene Brenya and Daniel Nii Adjei acted as captains for the side last season during the period Amoako was languishing on the substitutes bench.
