Arsenal adapted well to new formation - Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain felt Arsenal performed admirably in a new formation at Middlesbrough on Monday night.

Arsene Wenger deployed a three-man defence for the first time since 1997 as the Gunners fought hard for a 2-1 triumph at the Riverside Stadium.

"It was something new for us. We worked on it this week," said The Ox, according to Arsenal.com.

"It was a change and new for a lot of us, but I think we've adapted really well to it tonight. Especially in the first half I thought it worked really well for us.

"In the second half, Middlesbrough came out and made it a lot more difficult.

"They went direct at the end but all in all it was a new system and we've got the three points with it - that's all that matters."

Goals from Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil either side of Alvaro Negredo's equaliser did the job for Arsenal who went with Laurent Koscielny alongside Gabriel Paulista and Rob Holding at the back.
