Arsenal legend retires at 42

Robert Pires has confirmed his retirement from professional football at the age of 42.

Former Arsenal midfielder Pires, who won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups under Arsene Wenger between 2000 and 2006, is the last member of the 1998 World Cup-winning France squad to depart the professional game.

"I'm 42 years old so some time must stop. We must say stop and above all must give way to young," he told beIN Sports. "My last experience was in India."

His last competitive game was for Indian Super League side FC Goa in December 2014 but has continued to work on his fitness at Arsenal's London Colney ground.
