General Manager of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Samuel Opoku Nti has denied reports that the club made a bid of GH120,000 for AshantiGold midfielder and 2015 Most Valuable Player of the Premier League, Eric Opoku, after admitting that the club held initial talks with the player.

Reports were rife in the media that the Porcupine Warriors tabled a GH120,000 offer for the player but the 2015 MVP declined the offer to extend his renew his AshGold contract which had expired.

The report further revealed that Eric Opoku opted to play for the Ghana League champions because of the opportunities in playing in the CAF Champions League hence his decision to decline the Asante Kotoko offer.

However, General Manager of the Porcupine Warriors has insisted that even though they held initial talks with Eric Opoku over a possible move, they did not discuss any monetary engagements.

"To be honest with you, we held talks with Eric Opoku over a possible move but we did not discuss money matters," Opoku Nti told Ghanasoccernet.com

"We only told the player that we wanted him so he should let us know if he is interested. He should not tell us anything about money. All we needed was the player's consent."

The Asante Kotoko GM explained that they were not ready to negotiate the money involved but wanted the player to commit himself before talking about money.

"But we realised that he wanted to negotiate to know the amount involved and we were also not ready to negotiate but only wanted the consent. That's all," Opoku Nti concluded.

The 2015 Most Valuable Player on the transfer radar of many clubs both locally and internationally but renewed his expired contract by a year to play for AshGold in the CAF Champions League.
