After their 1-1 draw at Newcastle United on Saturday evening, Aston Villa remain bottom of the Premier League table - five points off nearest rivals Sunderland and 10 points off safety.
There is doom and there is gloom at Villa Park and there is little changing that based on recent form in the Midlands.
But there was at least one bright spark at St James' Park in the shape of Jordan Ayew. And, if the 24-year-old can transform one game for Aston Villa, why can't he transform their season?
Okay, that's certainly far fetched. Yet it's the kind of positivity Aston Villa fans will have to cling to right now as their survival hopes do look very slim indeed.
Newcastle were the dominant force as they led Villa 1-0 without looking all that convincing on Tyneside. But Ayew changed the game; his superb goal leveled the scores and gave the visitors all the momentum.
Naturally, then, supporters were keen to lavish the forward with praise on Twitter. One even joked that the season review of Villa's campaign will simply be a clip of Ayew's strike at Newcastle. Here's a selection of the social media reaction from Aston Villa fans:
Jordan Ayew take a bow. Brilliant performance, shame they didn't all play like that #avfc

If every player showed the same fight & passion as Jordan Ayew we wouldn't be in this position. Keep your head held high my friend!! #AVFC — Simon Rock (@Si_Rock1987) December 19, 2015
Cant blame Remi Garde, he walked into a mess. Players need to show more hunger, Ayew is the suprise example. 10 points from safety 😖 #avfc
