Azam captain Yakubu Mohammed got his debut call-up for the Black Stars due to his versatility, coach Charles Akonnor has revealed.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed a fabolous run in the Tanzanian  Mainland Premier League since his switch from Aduana Stars.

Yakubu preferred role is the centre-back but can operate as a right back or defensive shield.

And coach Akonnor has offered an explanation on his decision to call-up the defender.

“Yakubu, he is a new guy, known in this country, he’s played very well through the ranks of Aduana and now in Azam he is doing well he is the captain of the team,” Akonnor told Ghana FA TV.

“His situation is exceptional because he will play a lot of different positions…holding midfielder and of course right back but his main position is the center back, but we want to have the chance to have a look at him in different areas of the game.
