Barca's director of scouts 'set for sporting director role at Lokomotiv Moscow'

With rumours of war behind the scenes at Barcelona B and the academy, Jose Mari Bakero could decide to take on a new challenge in Russia, according to reports from said country.

In concrete, Nobel Arustamian (a renowned journalist in the country who doesn't get a lot wrong) announced that Bakero, Barça's current director of scouts and the technical secretary for Barça B, could become Lokomotiv Moscow's new sporting director.

As powerful financially as they are chaotic with some decisions, the Moscow side surprised many when they decided not to renew the contract of Yuri Semin, the coach that led them to the league title in 2018 aged 71.

The new coach at the club will be the Serbian Mark Nikolic, 40, who has spent the last two seasons in charge of the Hungarian side Fehervar.

The journalist Arustamian has explained: "Kinkadze (Vasili, Lokomotiv's director general) is taking a new approach and reorganising the club's structure.

"A new figure will appear at the club, the Barcelona legend Jose Mari Bakero, who is one of the players to have played the most games for the Catalan club."

He says the appointment should happen soon and that Barça's sporting director Eric Abidal recommended Bakero for the role during a journey to Moscow in 2019.
