Barcelona don't want another KP Boateng situation as three No.9 linked

Published on: 21 January 2020

Barcelona have long been clear that they want to sign a striker to replace Luis Suarez, who will likely miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury, but thus far the club have not found the player they are looking for.

What is evident is that Barcelona do not want a repeat of the Kevin-Prince Boateng situation from a year ago, where they brought him in on loan for the last six months of the campaign.

Last year's experiences with Boateng and Jeison Murillo were disappointing, so they have ruled this out as an option.

Thus, Barcelona will try to sign an elite striker or they will not sign anyone at all. There is no middle ground.

One option that Barcelona's leaders like a lot is Valencia forward Rodrigo Moreno, who they considered signing in the summer.

However, he will not come cheap as Valencia want 60 million euros for their star man.

There are two other names that have been heavily linked with the Blaugrana recently, too.

One of them is RB Leipzig goalscorer Timo Werner, who is having an excellent season to this point. But due to this, the German side have no intention of selling the 23-year-old.

The other is Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has always been held in high regard by those at the Camp Nou.

He was a teammate of Ousmane Dembele's at Borussia Dortmund, though it is unclear how quickly he could adapt to life at Barcelona.

That adaptation is something that Barcelona see as vital, which thus gives one more point in favour of Rodrigo.

If there is no agreement with a striker not currently at the club, Quique Setien will keep what he has. There is always the option of Antoine Griezmann or Lionel Messi playing as a false nine.

There is not much to choose from at Barcelona B and this is why Barcelona will push to sign a replacement for Suarez before the close of the transfer window on January 31.
