Black Satellites captain Daniel Afriyie eyes Nigeria scalp ahead of WAFU U-20 Championship opener

Ghana U-20 captain Daniel Afriyie Barnieh is confident of victory against rivals Nigeria in their opening game at the WAFU U-20 championship.

The Black Satellites will face their Nigerian counterparts on Wednesday in Benin as they chase one of the tickets to the Africa Youth Championship in Mauritania next year.

“The game we watched yesterday involving Nigeria and Ivory Coast was very open. We won’t talk much, but do our talking on the pitch. We must take all three points against Nigeria on Wednesday,” Afriyie told footballmadeinghana.com.

Nigeria have been Ghana's nemesis at the various levels including the U-20 stage, having eliminated the Black Staellites in previous competitions.

But Afriyie and his teammates wont dwell on the past.

“What happened in the past remains in the past. We are keen on defeating them. With them beating us in the last edition remains in the past. We must focus on the present and get the needed win.

“They have already played and experienced the tournament. They will want to beat us to qualify. They will want to win by hook or crook and we will also prove our eagerness to win. They will definitely approach us in an aggressive way and we are ready to match them in equal measure,” he concluded.
