Black Stars new boy Cudjoe ready for challenge

AshantiGold midfielder Sampson Cudjoe says he can meet expectations after being handed a late call-up to replace midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng ahead of Sunday's 2012 Nations Cup qualifier against Sudan.

He has been likened to the AC Milan ace because of combativeness in the middle of the park and accurate passes.

Cudjoe spent a season's loan at Honka FC in Finland where he played in the qualifying rounds of the defunct Uefa Cup, but had to return home because the club failed to meet his asking price for a permanent deal.

The 22-year-old's invitation came as a surprise to many despite some impressive displays for the struggling Ghana Premier League side.

"You can't buy experience in the market and this is where you can gain one. Every coach has its plans and the players to do the job, I think I have been performing at AshGold that is why the coach selected me. It's not by luck at all," Cudjoe told Ghanasoccernet.com

The former Ghana Under-23 player has received the backing of stand-in coach head coach Akwesi Appiah to fight for a permanent place in the team.

"I have been watching around in the League and I need somebody who is stronger in the middle and can support the attack as well and he fits the bill," Interim Ghana coach Akwesi Appiah told Ghanasoccernet.com

Ghana play Sudan at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
