Ghana defender John Boye was unable to help as Rennes slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Reims on Saturday with John Mensah on the bench.

A 32nd minute strike by Mohammed Fofana was all the hosts needed to claim all three points at stake.

John Boye lasted the full 90 minutes as compatriot John Mensah remained on the bench for the second successive game.

Boye who is expected in the Ghana camp by Tuesday for the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Sudan only resumed first team action last week after recovering from abdominal pains.

Mensah has also returned from a recent injury but is yet to play for the first team since his return.

The ex Ghana captain will remain in France throughout next week to improve his fitness as he was not called up for the crucial 2014 game on March 24.
