Bukayo Saka is in a race to be fit for Arsenal's trip to Manchester United

Mikel Arteta will assess Bukayo Saka in training on Wednesday before making a decision on his availability for the trip to Manchester United.

Saka was forced off in Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Newcastle on Saturday not long after scoring and when he felt discomfort in his thigh.

Arteta said: ‘I am hopeful but we don’t know. Obviously it’s a really short turnaround and the player has to be comfortable playing with a little injury and let’s see how it is today in training.

‘Until I see him this morning on the pitch it would probably be a bit too soon to say that [what percentage chance he will have of playing].

‘We are not going to risk our players if we believe that can go against us.

'Playing with an injury means that he had to leave the pitch and when someone has to leave the pitch I believe that he is injured.

'He was willing to continue. That injury can be 24 hours, 72 or a year.

‘And Bukayo is really willing. He has been preparing the last two days because he wants to play and let’s see how he is.’
