CAF confirm interclub season will kick off September 9

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have announced that their interclub competition for 2022/23 will begin on September 9.

“The 2022/23 season will kick off on Friday, 09 September 2022 with the preliminary rounds of both the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup,” CAF said in a statement.

The continent's football governing body said 58 clubs will compete in the Champions League to dethrone African champions Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco.

In the Confederation Cup, 50 clubs will compete to unseat current champions RS Berkane of Morocco.

The first leg of matches of the first preliminary round will be played from September 9 to 11, with the return matches scheduled to be played a week later.

Ghanaian champions Asante Kotoko will represent Ghana in the CAF Champions League, while the CAF Confederation Cup spot is taken by Hearts of Oak.

Kotoko have drawn to play Burkinabe champions RC Kadiogo in the preliminary round.
