CAF expresses shock at death of Ghana president Mills

The Confederation of African Football President Issa Hayatou has joined the list of influential people who have paid tribute to deceased Ghana President John Mills.

Mills died on Tuesday afternoon at age 68 at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra after a long battle with throat cancer.

A statement said: “It is with sadness that we have learnt of the untimely death of President Mills. CAF is saddened by the news and on behalf of the African football family; I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved  family, Ghana Football Association and the people of Ghana.

“President Mills has made a significant contribution to the shine of Ghana and African football by extending the commitment of those who preceded him as head of the nation since Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in 1957."

"My thoughts and prayers are with all Ghanaians during this difficult period,” said Hayatou.

Mills was a former director for 2000 African Champions League winners Hearts of Oak.
