Canal+ reluctant to pay 110 million euros to Ligue 1 clubs

Football's fears appear to be coming to fruition as Canal+ are reluctant to fulfil a 110 million euro payment scheduled for April 5.

French clubs rely on television rights for about 36 percent of their income - or 47 percent if transfers are excluded - and the payment being withheld will hit hard.

L'Equipe reported on Saturday that the company don't want to make the payment, citing their head Maxime Saada.

Canal+ provide Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs with 548 million euros, whereas beIN contribute a further 201 million euros.

The newspaper added that even if the French domestic season is resumed on a condensed schedule, the television companies may still refuse to pay the entirety of the 759 million euros which was planned.
