Ghana winger Christian Atsu climbed off the bench to help Newcastle United progress to the third round of the Carabao Cup with victory over Blackburn Rovers.
The out-of-favour attacker replaced Matt Richie in the 79th minute as the Magpies progressed with a 1-0 win at the Saint James Park.
New signing Ryan Fraser scored on his debut for the club to secure the victory for the Premier League outfit.
Fraser latched on to a clever Miguel Almiron through ball and slotted home midway through the first half.
Blackburn Rovers dominated possession throughout but lacked the cutting edge to prise open a stubborn Newcastle defence.
Newcastle United will next face Morecambe in the third round next week.
