Concern at Barcelona after two positive COVID-19 cases emerge at Cornella

Published on: 22 January 2021

Cornella, who faced Barcelona in the Copa del Rey on Thursday night, have reported two positive COVID-19 cases this Friday.

That's concerning for Barcelona after they faced off against the Segunda B side on Thursday evening.

The Blaugrana were able to train without any issues on Friday as they have followed LaLiga's coronavirus protocols and the players have all had tests, the ones that are obligatory two days before a LaLiga Santander match. Barcelona's next fixture is away at Elche on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Cornella have asked for their weekend's fixture to be postponed. They now have four cases after one player and one member of the technical staff tested positive at the beginning of the week. They were isolated and the Copa del Rey game was able to go ahead.

The names of the two new positive players have not been revealed yet.

Barcelona, meanwhile, will continue to prepare for Elche and will follow LaLiga's protocols.
