Confederation Cup: Coton Sport file protest to get Asante Kotoko thrown out

Cameroonian club Coton Sport de Garoua have reported Asante Kotoko to CAF over the eligibility midfielder Kwame Bonsu in the CAF Confederation Cup. 

A 7 page document signed by the president of Coton Sport Fernard Sanou and the Secretary General of the Cameroon Football Federation,Benjamin Didier Banlock explains Kwame Bonsu was not duly registered for the competition.

The Cameroonian giants want the Kumasi based outfit thrown out of the competition for using the former IF Gafle player.

Coton Sport officials took time to explain possible violation of article 6.5 of the rules on players jersey number in the playoffs phase of the CAF club competition.

The match documents which was circulated in the away game in Yaounde has been sent to CAF have by the Secretary General of FECAFOOT.

The document carries Kwame Bonsu’s name in Jersey number 8 while the documents of the reversed fixture have the same player’s name affiliated to the number 3 jersey as if to insinuate violation of article 6.5 of the competitions rules.

Meanwhile, officials of Asante Kotoko have rubbished claims of any irregularities related to Bonsu but the new twist now involves the Cameroon Football Federation.

Asante Kotoko eliminated Coton Sport in the play-offs of the Confederations Cup to progress to the group stages of the competition.

Kotoko have been paired Zambian sides Zesco United and Nkana FC as well as Sudan Champions Al Hilal in group c of the Confederations Cup.
