Conte: Real Madrid can’t cry about their losses, talking about their absences makes me laugh

Published on: 25 November 2020

Antonio Conte has laughed off the idea that Real Madrid might feel a little short of options ahead of their Champions League clash with Inter on Wednesday evening.

The Inter boss, who has often bemoaned a lack of options in his own squad, doesn’t think that the Spanish champions can complain about the players they have available to them, despite them being without important players Sergio Ramos, Karim Benzema, and Fede Valverde, while Alvaro Odriozola is also out.

“I don’t think Madrid can cry about their losses,” Conte said during Tuesday’s pre-match press conference.

“They have a team with many good players. The fact that the newspapers talk about Madrid’s absences makes me laugh.”

Inter sit bottom of the group after three games but, with just two points separating them and Shakhtar Donetsk in second, Conte knows that a positive result on Wednesday can turn things around.

“For us it is a final,” Conte stated.

“We know the history of the team [Madrid], not only from the past, but also from recent history.

“We know that we don’t have many options other than to get an important result. We have shown that if we play well and are focused, we can win the game.”
