Debut Black Stars call-up leaves Bechem United forward Augustine Okrah emotional

Bechem United attacker Augustine Okrah has reacted emotionally to his first Black Stars call-up ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in June.

Since the start of the season, the 28-year-old has been outstanding for the Hunters who are in contention for the Ghana Premier League title with four games to go.

Okrah joins Hearts of Oak striker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, who has scored 10 goals, as the only local players in the 33-man squad named on Thursday.

The Bechem United forward, who has 13 league goals and four FA Cup goals, responded to the news on Twitter.

Okrah recently expressed a desire to play for the Black Stars, and he is on the verge of fulfilling that ambition.

"When given the opportunity to play for the Black Stars, I will be very excited. That's my ultimate dream."

"I always discuss that with my mum. I remember .. when I missed a penalty at the WAFU tournament, she received some calls and attacks."

"When I finally get the invitation, I have resolved not to disappoint and excel as I did during the WAFU and how I am performing here at Bechem. The desire to wear the Black Stars jersey motivates me a lot," Okrah told Akoma FM.

Black Stars face Madagascar in their first match of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers on June 1 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

For the second match against the Central African Republic, Ghana will travel to Angola.

They will then compete in a four-nation tournament against Japan, Chile, and Tunisia as part of their preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in November.
