Ex-Hearts of Oak defender Hassan Mohammed has sharply disagreed with a section of the Ghanaian public calling for the country to sever her relationship with Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien.

In an interview with Accra Mail, the Real Tamale United hardman insists Essien is one of the finest players ever to have graced Ghana football.

The defender says any coach in the world would clamour for his addition their squad adding that the Black Stars will need his services for the ongoing African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The RTU defender says Black stars coach Goran Stevanovic shouldengage Essien in a fruitful conversation that would lead to his eventual return to the team.

‘’Essien might be having problems with his return and doesn’t want to come out publicly,” Hassan Mohammed said.

“So it is the duty of the coach to meet him immediately. I am sure he can convince him.”

The Chelsea star last featured for the Black Stars in the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola in Ghana’s match against the Ivory Coast and subsequently got injured during the team’s training section.

The midfield dynamo returned back from injury to start the season for Chelsea but asked the Ghana Football Association to give him time to regain his fitness back.
