Delneri: Hellas Verona will give everything to win the derby

Published on: 16 February 2016

Despite being at the foot of the table, 10 points from safety, Hellas Verona coach Luigi Delneri is convinced his side can still avoid relegation.

The 65-year-old, who succeeded Andrea Mandorlini in December, managed to steer the Gialloblu to their first Serie A win two weeks ago, as they beat Atalanta. The upcoming derby against Chievo could be the right match to boost the Veronese side’s motivation in their race to safety.

“We will try to honour the derby,” Delneri told Italian TV channel TeleArena.

“I hope Hellas Verona can win it. You win these games thanks to heart, strength and personality, and we will give everything.

“I believe that we can survive.”

Despite Verona’s situation, Delneri acknowledges that the supporters have been very supportive towards the team.

“The relationship between fans and players is the best thing,” he added

“The supporters really love these colours, they will be decisive to help us and we will do everything we can to repay this.

“I’m thinking of a Serie A future, but even if we will be relegated I’ll look at Hellas Verona as a Serie A club.”
