Ghana midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei has lauded his determined TP Mazembe teammates for their memorable 2-1 win over USM Alger in the first leg of the CAF Champions League finals.

The Congolese giants secured the massive advantage with goals from Rainford Kalaba and Mbwana Samatta giving TP Mazembe a dream 2-0 lead.

It only took a late strike from Mohamed Seguer to give the Algerian hosts a glimmer of hope in the finals ahead of the return leg in Lubumbashi.

Nii Adjei is one of five Ghanaian players with the DR Congo giants puts the massive win squarely on the determination of the players who are also desirous of tasting glory on the continental stage.

“We were so determined to get this result to make sure we were relieved off the pressure when we go back home,” he told GHANAsoccernet.com.

“There is so much pressure on us the players when we play at home due to the huge expectations of the fans.

“We want to ease this pressure and ultimately get the win and that is how come we strived for the win.

“There are also a lot of players in the side that have not tasted glory in the Champions League than those who have so we are very motivated to get this cup.”

TP Mazembe haven’t won the CAF Champions League since their last triumph in 2010 which featured the influential Tresor Mputu.

The club are now in the hunt to win their fifth Champions League title which will see them represent Africa in the FIFA Club World Cup.
