Di Matteo changing Abramovich mind over Chelsea stay

Published on: 19 May 2012

Roberto di Matteo could still land the Chelsea job permanently.

The Daily Star says owner Roman Abramovich has had a last-minute change of heart and, after appearing determined to bring in a new boss, he is warming to the idea of appointing Di Matteo.

Billionaire Abramovich appears to have realised how bad it would look if the club axed Di Matteo after he rescued the Blues’ season with an FA Cup Final victory and progress to the Champions League Final.

The 42-year-old will be out of work at the end of next month when his deal as caretaker boss runs out.

A first Champions League success for the Blues against Bayern Munich tonight, masterminded by Di Matteo. would make it tough for Abramovich to wield the axe.
