Landon Donovan says he is set to come out of retirement for the second time in his career to join Liga MX club Leon.

The 35-year-old, who retired from the LA Galaxy after winning the MLS Cup in the 2014 season and then came out of retirement to play for the club in 2016, has signed a one-year deal with Leon, the club's president confirmed in a phone interview with FOX Deportes Mexico.

In a statement on Twitter, Donovan said: "I loved the City. You have the best fans. @clubleonfc is a historic and winning team. I do not believe in walls, I want to go to Mexico, wear green and win trophies with Leon. See you soon!"
