Dreams FC forward Joseph Esso has expressed happiness following his first call-up to the senior national team, Black Stars.

The former Hearts of Oak star has been included in a 32-man home-based squad to start preparations for Ghana's Africa Cup of Nations qualifying games against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe next month.

They will later be joined by other foreign-based players.

Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor added Esso, having been impressed with the striker's performance in the Ghana Premier League this season. Esso has led Dreams to third on the table with seven goals scored after 14 games.

Over the weekend, Esso bagged a brace as Dreams beat Aduana Stars 4-2 in Dawu.

Speaking after the game, Esso reacted to his Black Stars call-up. He said: “It is the dream of every player to play for his national team so I am happy to get this call-up."

Ghana are scheduled to take on the Bafana Bafana in round five of the qualifiers before tackling Sao Tome and Principe in the final qualifier.

The Black Stars are tied on 9 points at the top of the standings in Group C after four matches with two games left.
