Egypt legend Ahmed Hassan to run for Egypt FA presidential role

Egypt and African football icon Ahmed Hassan has announced his intentions to run for the upcoming Egypt Football Association presidential elections.

The Egypt FA is currently being run by a Normalization Committee set up by FIFA after the previous administration resigned from their posts following an embarrassing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

As host nation, Egypt exited at the round of 16 losing to South Africa at the Cairo international stadium.

The mandate of the Normalization Committee comes to an end in July 2020, before then they need to organize elections to pave way for a new administration.

The ex-Pharaoh's captain expressed his desire to vie for the presidential role of the Egypt football on OnTime Sports 2 TV channel in an interview.

"I’m thinking of running for the EFA presidency, I’m still studying the situation," he said

"But I honestly didn’t make a final decision, I want to be in a position to help the development of the sport.

"I talked with many parties and there are many teams who want me in the FA but as I said I didn’t make a decision.

"My decision will be made when I find a group of people looking to work for the benefit of Egyptian football not for anything else," he concluded.

Hassan, 44, won four Africa Cup of Nations titles with the Pharaohs and went ahead to make 184 appearances.

The former Ismaily SC, Zamalek SC and Al Ahly SC attacking midfielder is the most capped footballer in the history of the Egypt national team.

After retiring in 2013, Hassan took charge of Petrojet FC as head coach in 2015 and has been part of the Egypt U23 technical staff.
