The Egyptian government has figured out a new way to honor the country's star forward Mohamed Salah who plays for Liverpool in the English Premier League: build him a museum,
The "Mohamed Salah Sports Centre" will be located at the Gezira Youth Centre in Cairo, The Mirror reported on Thursday.
Some of Salah's belongings, team jerseys and pictures of his career highlights will be displayed in the museum. Ashraf Sobhy, Egypt's sports minister, plans to open the museum after Salah receives the award of BBC African Player of the Year, his second in a row.
In his first season with Liverpool, Salah managed to make the club's fans fall in love with him by breaking multiple records including debut season scoring, becoming Player of the Season and winning the Golden Boot award thanks to his 32 goals.
Great athletes in today's world are heroes to their fans, cities and countries, and even gods in popular events. Therefore, people came up with various ways to honor those for their achievements and contributions.
For example, Arsenal, from the Premier League, prefers to build statues for the club's historic players. So far, Arsenal have built statues for five of their legends: Ken Friar, Dennis Bergkamp, Herbert Chapman, Tony Adams and Thierry Henry.
NBA's Los Angeles Lakers also favors statues. In April, 2018, the purple and gold unveiled the statue of Elgin Baylor, one of the greatest scorers in NBA history, in front of the Staples Center, bringing a new friend to the five standing there: Shaquille O'Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Jerry West and Chick Hearn.
Besides statues, stands are also an option in the soccer world. Premier League's Manchester United in 2011 named Old Trafford's North Stand the"Sir Alex Ferguson Stand" on the 25th anniversary of the legendary manager's appointment. United's long-time arch-rivals Liverpool in 2017 renamed Anfield's Centenary Stand after Kenny Dalglish for his contributions to the club.
