Ghana women's football captain, Elizabeth Addo made her debut for Cyprus side Apollon Ladies FC in their 3-0 win over Swansea Ladies in the UEFA Women’s Champions League first qualifying round on Wednesday.

Elizabeth Addo joined Apollon on a short term deal from Chinese side Jiangsu Suning on a free transfer.

The skilful midfielder lasted the entire duration in the game for Apollon as they recorded a comfortable lead ahead of the second leg next week.

Rio Hardy put the hosts ahead after five minutes. The Cypriot side doubled their lead in first-half stoppage time through Krystyna Freda before she put the tie beyond the Welsh side’s reach early in the second half with Apollon’s third goal in the fifty-sixth minutes to Secured the win for Apollon Ladies in the first leg.

The 27-year old has featured in the UEFA women’s Champions League for in the past for Spartak Subotica in 2014 and Ferencvaros in 2015.

In 2016, she was one of three players shortlisted for the 2015/2016 Hungarian Women’s League Footballer of the Year award.

The 27-year-old was also recognized in 2017 as one of the best midfielders in the Swedish Damallsvenskan after scoring 7 goals in 29 matches for Kvarnsvedens IK.

 

Elizabeth Addo was nominated for Africa’s Women Footballer of the year award in 2019.
