Scolari, who is currently in charge of Palmeiras, joined the Brazilian giants in June on a 32-month contract, after quitting Bunyodkor of Uzbekistan.

The Black Stars are seeking permanent replacement for Serbian Milovan Rajevac who led the young side to the last eight of world football's flagship tournament.

Scolari joins a long list of world class coaches who have applied for the vacant position after the Serbian quit the post some at the start of this month.

Marcel Desailly, Gianfranco Zola and Juande Ramos are all seeking the job of Ghana manager position after Rajevac stepped down following the World Cup quarter final defeat to Uruguay.

Former Morocco and Tunisia boss Humberto Coelho and Frenchman Lucien Favre are the other leading contenders.

Scolari won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil and led Portugal to the final of Euro 2004, and has also won nine domestic trophies in Brazil.

The 59-year-old Brazilian was the fourth manager during owner Roman Abramovich's reign following the departures of Claudio Ranieri, Jose Mourinho and Avram Grant.

Scolari has long been the nemesis of English football as he was in charge of both Brazil and Portugal when they ended England's chances in the 2002 World Cup, Euro 2004 and the World Cup in 2006.

His reputation led him to be considered for the England manager's job in 2006 but he was reportedly put off the role because of fears of media intrusion.

However, when his contract with the Portuguese Football Federation expired on 29 June - the date of the Euro 2008 final - he took the opportunity to try his hand at management in the Premier League.

The former defender, before the Chelsea job, had never managed an European club but had won the Copa Libertadores - South America's equivalent of the Champions League - with Brazilian clubs Gremio and Palmeiras.

He also won a Brazilian championship (Gremio) in 1996, three Brazilian cups and three South Rio Grande championships.

Scolari coached Bunyodkor after his Chelsea exit but he quit the Uzbek champions by mutual consent on 29 May 2010 after failing to guide the club past the last 16 in the Asian Champions League.
