Ex-Inter director: Messi didn't want to leave Barca because he was very grateful

Lionel Messi is a legend at Barcelona, but he could have been wearing the black-and-blue stripes of Inter.

Former Inter sporting director Marco Branca has explained how the club tried to pry Messi away from Barcelona, without success, in 2008.

"Yes, we moved with intent, but Leo didn't want to leave Barcelona," Branca told TMW Radio.

"He was very grateful [for what Barcelona had given him].

"The economic aspect is not always the priority.

"It's not all about the money."

Lautaro Martinez may be about to make a move in the other direction, with Barcelona reportedly in talks with Inter to bring the Argentine to the Camp Nou.

"I read that Messi wants him, but I don't know about the situation and I can't express myself," Branca said.
