Favre bemoans missed chances

Published on: 02 March 2019

Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre said his side missed too many chances after slipping to a surprise 2-1 Bundesliga defeat at FC Augsburg on Friday.

BVB went into the game at the  WWK Arena looking to stretch their lead at the top of the table to six points over Bayern Munich.

We were dominant and had many chances. Five or six great chances. But we made unnecessary mistakes.

However, it was Augsburg who edged the contest to ease their relegation worries with striker Ji Dong-won scoring a goal in each half, before Paco Alcacer grabbed a late consolation goal for Dortmund.

It means reigning champions Bayern Munich can move level on points with them should they win at third-placed Borussia Monchengladbach and Favre was left to reflect on missed opportunities.

"We could’ve won today," Favre told reporters.

"We had our opportunities to score goals but we didn't take them.

"We were dominant and had many chances. Five or six great chances. But we made unnecessary mistakes. The opposition had practically no chances and yet we lost 2-1."

Dortmund are now priced at 7/4 to win the Bundesliga title, while Bayern are available at 2/5.
