Some leading football administrators in the country are opposing to government’s decision to use proceeds from the World Cup to develop other sporting disciplines.

Their argument is the amount to be realized from the Black Stars participation at the mundial in Brazil should be wholly put into the sport not elsewhere.

President and owner of King Faisal Football Club was the first to voice out against the Sports Minister who disclosed it at last week’s meet the press series.

New Edubiase United president Abdul Salam Yakubu has joined the debate and told Accra-based Asempa FM: “Football has a lot of problems and we need the money than other sporting discipline.

“I think clubs can been given money to develop a nice training pitch and the project properly monitored so

Ghana FA Executive Committee member Wilfred Osei, chairman of Tema Youth, also pointed out grassroots football needed massive financial injection and the decision to disbursement the money is a bad idea.

“If you look at the colts clubs, they pay for their officiating fees but if the FA pays for them for instance, it will be something commendable,”  he said.

Ghana earned US$ 11m after reaching the last eight of the 2010 finals in South Africa but the amount was paid into government’s kitty.

The Football Association was not given a penny to spend or invest in the sport.
