Former Ghana international Joe Addo has tipped Kotoko defender Rashid Sumaila and SWAG golden shoe winner Mahatma Otoo to contend for the Ghana Premier League player of the season award.

Sumaila, 20, made over 23 appearances for league champions Asante Kotoko winning three man-of-the-match awards while striker Mahatma Otoo netted 20 Premiership goals and 24 in all competitions.

Otoo, whose goal king record is just a goal shy of Emmanuel Baffour's record last season, has already been named the Ghana Sports Writers Association's player of the season and is highly tipped to win Premier League player of the season after his consistency.

While Otoo is remains the ultimate favourite for most connoisseurs, Addo who made his name on the local scene with Hearts of Oak and captained all the Ghana junior national teams before taking the armband at the Black Stars, believes Sumaila can march Otoo for the league's best player award.

"For me its two players who did well. One, Rashid Sumaila of Kotoko and Mahatma Otoo. Sumaila is good in the air, tackles wonderfully and overall he is a complete defender and Otoo's record is there for all to see as well," he told Accra-based Oman FM.

As the norm has been, the two players are set for greener pastures abroad after excelling on the local scene.

Sumaila who played at Kotoko as a loanee from Ebusua Dwarfs has already sign a pre-contract for South African Premier Soccer League side Mamelodi Sundowns while Otoo is expected to net a bumper deal at TP Mazembe in the coming days.
