Chief Executive Officer of Fortuna Dusseldorf, Uwe Klein says his outfit will keep Bernard Tekpetey despite his underwhelming display in the season gone by.

The 22-year-old joined Dusseldorf on a two-year loan deal last summer from Schalke 04 following his impressive stint at Paderborn 07 the previous season.

He has however failed to live up to expectations at the club having featured in 9 games with zero goal in the just ended Bundesliga campaign.

Reports suggest that Dusseldorf are looking to cut ties with the Ghana international by sending him back to his parent club before the end of his loan spell.

But according to Klein, they are still interested in his services as they prepare for life in the upcoming lower-tier division league contest following their demotion.

"Does Düsseldorf want to start rebuilding with Tekpetey after the relegation? It could be a weapon," Klein said to Kicker.

Bernard still has an existing contract with Schalke O4 until 2021.

He has been capped 2 times for Ghana at the senior national team.
