'Future GOAT' - Manchester United fans rave after Alvaro Fernandez stars for loan side Preston

Published on: 06 October 2022

Manchester United youngster Alvaro Fernandez scooped a man-of-the-match award for temporary employers Preston North End on Wednesday night.

The young Spanish full-back put in a superb cross to tee up Emil Riis who notched the only goal of the game in a win over struggling West Bromwich Albion. Ali McCann outran Jayson Molumby in the middle of the field to set up Alvaro Fernandez on the left before the United loanee sent in a frightening low cross that was converted in the seventh minute.

That assist, added to a resolute and spirited performance up against Albion's Jed Wallace, led to the 19-year-old being awarded the post-match gong. It is promising to be an exciting stint at Deepdale for Fernandez, who followed in the footsteps of Nicky Butt, John O'Shea and Darren Fletcher by winning United's under-23 player of the year award last season.

The latest win ensured a ninth clean sheet this season for Preston and helped them to climb four places to 11th in the Championship table. The result also means former United defender Steve Bruce's West Brom have been left with just one win from 12 matches, and the Baggies have now sunk to 22nd place and two points from safety.

With Fernandez turning in yet another impressive performance, United fans are getting understandably excited over how the youngster is faring this campaign while out on loan at Preston.
