Gennaro Gattuso was happy with the team’s performance at the back against Atalanta in the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-finals.
“I’m pleased with our defensive display. There are no favourites when you face Atalanta and they’re always a difficult side to face. I liked the way we applied ourselves as a team against a team that combines physicality with brilliant technical ability.
“Maybe we could’ve done more going forward, but we’re a bit short in that department. We have players unavailable and others are playing all the time, such as [Andrea] Petagna.
“I tried to send some fresher faces out there tonight and I’ll have to do the same thing on Saturday in Genoa.
“We’re playing every three days, so we have to keep an eye on the players each time and try to send out the best team. We changed formation today because of the attributes of some of our players.
“At the moment we need to bring in fresh faces for the many fixtures that we have. We’re playing again on Saturday and then we’ll head to Bergamo on Wednesday in a bid to qualify for the final.”
