GFA to name Dutch coach as new Black Stars assistant

Published on: 31 May 2021

The Ghana Football Association is set to appoint a Dutch as assistant Black Stars coach.

According to reliable information reaching GHANASoccernet.com, the coach was recommended by head coach Charles Akonnor, who is keen on strengthening his technical department ahead of his first tournament in charge of the senior national team early next year.

This means current deputy David Duncan could leave his role to make way for the Dutch tactician whose name is yet to be revealed.

Akonnor has invited 30 players to start preparations for next week's double international friendlies.

The team will assembly in Cape Coast for training before leaving for Casablanca next week for the friendly against Morocco.

Ghana will then play Ivory Coast in Cape Coast on June 12.

The Black Stars' next international assignment is in October, where they engage South Africa in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Akonnor has been tasked to win the delayed 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and also qualify Ghana for World Cup in Qatar.
