Attorney General clears Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan of rape, sodomy charges, warns media against defamation

Asamoah Gyan has been cleared of rape and sodomy charges, legal representative of the iconic Ghana captain claimed in the country's capital, Accra on Tuesday.

According to Kissi Adjabeng, the Attorney General has closed the docket on a ‘baseless and concocted’ allegation which gained massive inches in the Ghanaian press.

The country’s legal chief has closed the chapter on a widely publicized matter and put to rest all the shenanigans that characterized the supposed rape and sodomy claims against the celebrated Black Stars captain.

“Gyan cooperated with the Police throughout their investigation and their investigation has come to an end," lawyer Adjabeng told Ghanaian journalists on Tuesday

“We were called to the headquarters of the CID and informed that after a careful study of the docket, the Attorney General has concluded the rape and unnatural canal knowledge made by Sarah Kwablah against Asamoah Gyan are totally baseless.

“The docket must be closed, in plain language Asamoah Gyan has been cleared of all allegations by Kwablah.

Gyan, who plays for ambitious Chinese side Shanghai SIPG, was caught in web of alleged blackmail by a desperate University student following a one-night stand.

The lady at the centre of the controversy, Sarah Kwabla, threatened to leak a supposed explicit video and audio involving the two during their encounter in February this year if her demands for a furnished apartment, a housemaid and a monthly stipend of $1,000 for postnatal care were not fulfilled.

The 22-year-old University of Ghana student claimed she got pregnant after she spent a ‘no hold barred’ evening at her house with the former Al Ain attacker and wants him to assume responsibility.

Gyan has insisted the sexual rendezvous was consensual – a claim which had been strenuously denied by Kwabla’s lawyer Maurice Ampaw.

Girls that target wealthy footballers are deemed as 'greedy and vicious' with Gyan hitting a rock bottom during the period the matter dominated the headlines.

With Gyan perceived to be a rich footballer, it been widely suspected the lady set a plot in motion to blackmail him in a bid to enrich herself at his expense but it appears such attempt has been foiled.

Public disclosure of sexual intercourse between partners is a serious criminal offence in Ghana with damning consequences for culprits.

Gyan is currently on holidays in his native country where he has been splashing cash on charity.
