Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan dropped from squad to play Kenya in Afcon qualifier

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has been left out of the country's squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Kenya next month.

Gyan, who plays for Turkish side Kayserispor, is the highest profile star to have been dropped from the squad to face the Harambee Stars on September 8.

Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has opted to stick with a core of younger players for the crunch tie against the East African side.

Despite his omission from the squad, the iconic figure remains the captain of the national team amid circling reports linking Inter Milan star Kwadwo Asamoah with the new leadership role.

Gyan is returning to his best after recovering from an injury-plagued spell in the past few years.

He is expected to lead the team for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Cameroon.
