Ghana coach CK Akonnor to name squad for Mali friendly today

Ghana coach Charles Akonnor will name his squad for the international friendly against Mali today (Friday).

The Ghanaian gaffer will name his squad for the friendly match in the city of Antalya in Turkey via the GFA News at 16:30 GMT.

The Black Stars are billed to play the Eagles on October 9 after Equatorial Guinea pulled out of a second friendly on October 12.

It's unclear if Akonnor will stick with the players he called up prior to the now 2022 Africa Cup of Nations double-header against Sudan before the coronavirus shutdown.

With no domestic football since March, its most likely the gaffer will stick with his prefered foreign-based players for the international friendly in Turkey.

Captain Andre Ayew and his two deputies Thomas Partey and Richard Ofori are sure bets to make the cut.

Swiss-based Lawrence Ati-Zigi could profit from the lack of football in Ghana to earn a place in the team as well as former Azam shot-stopper Razak Abalora.

Gideon Mensah is expected to make the squad but doubts surround Ashantigold right-back Kwadwo Amoah.

Usual suspects in centre-back Joseph Aidoo, Kasim Nuhu and Nicholas Opoku are likely to maintai their places in the team.

Midfielders Mubarak Wakaso, Alfred Duncan, Iddrisu Baba, Thomas Partey and Ajax new boy Mohammed Kudus are likely to be named in the squad.

Sensational Al-Fahya wideman Samuel Owusu is in line for his 9th cap in a short period with places for captain Andre Ayew guaranteed.

Crystal Palace striker Jordan Ayew will be looking to add to his international tally while Zamalek target Richmond Boakye Yiadom will get another crack at the international level.

The Black Stars were initially billed to play two friendlies against Mali and Equatorial Guinea but the latter pulled out on Thursday.
