Ghana coach rues misfortune against Sudan

Ghana caretaker boss Akwasi Appiah bemoaned his side's luck after they failed to break down a resolute Sudanese side in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday.

The goalless draw has given Nile Crocodiles the initiative in the group as they are currently tied on four points with the Black Stars after two rounds of matches.

Even though Ghana currently sit on top of the group with four matches remaining, Sudan have the advantage as the Black Stars will travel to Omdurman next year to face the Nile Crocodiles.

The Black Stars were guilty of missing a glut of chances and were made to pay when striker Asamoah Gyan was sent off late in the game.

Appiah, who was tipped by many to be the next substantive coach of the Black Stars, insists they were unlucky.

“I knew the Sudan game was going to be tough especially after watching them,” Appiah said.

“I knew they would come out fighting but it happens. The boys did very well. Even at 10 against 11 we were on top. We just were not lucky.” Ghana’s next game in the qualifiers will be in March against Congo but it is highly unlikely Appiah will be the man in charge then.
