Ghana defender Gideon Mensah draws inspiration from left-back Marcelo, saying he has been watching the gifted left-back since he was a kid.
The Real Madrid legend is regarded as one of the best left-backs of all time, having stayed consistent for over a decade. The Brazilian's honours include four Champions League titles, five Spanish league titles and has featured in FIFA World XI six times.
"The player who inspires me at my position? Marcelo. In a four-man defence, it's Marcelo. In a five-a-side defence, I don't know, but… But when I was little, it was Marcelo that I watched all the time […] I can do both, lateral or piston, but it depends," Mensah said.
"If we play four, I have time to combine with the winger. But as a piston, that's good too. I am an attacking player so I can no longer attack with five defenders ”
Mensah made the revelation in an interview with his new club Bordeaux where he is on loan from Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg.
Thus far, he has been impressive with three matches under his belt.
