The Ghana Football Association has postponed the country's FA Cup final match following the death of the country’s president John Evans Mills.

New Edubiase United were scheduled to face AshantiGold at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday in the country's biggest knock-out competition.

The match has now been moved to August 5.

"As a sign of respect and in honour of the memory our departed President, the GFA has decided to postpone the final of this year's MTN FA Cup final match between AshantiGold and New Edubiase which was scheduled to be played on Sunday," Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi said in a statement.

Former president Mills died on Tuesday afternoon in Accra after an illness.

He was a former chairman of the Black Stars management committee and an ex-director of Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak.

He was the leader of the country when the Black Satellites won Africa's first U20 World Cup title and was also a keen supporter of the Black Stars at the 2010 World Cup when they reached the quarter-final.
