Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus cameos as Ajax lose to PSV in Dutch Cup final

Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus climbed off the bench to feature as Ajax suffered defeat to PSV Eindhoven in the KNVB Dutch Cup final on Sunday.

The 21-year-old replaced Davy Klassen in the 84th minute with Ajax Amsterdam trailing 2-1 at the De Kuip stadium.

Ajax took an early lead through Ryan Gravenberch  in the 23rd minute after receiving a pass from Klassen.

PSV leveled with three minutes after the break through Erick Gutierrez, who pounced on an Ibrahim Sangnare's assist.

Two minutes later Ghanaian-Dutch forward Cody Gakpo snatched the winner with a brilliant strike.

"A lot went wrong. We do not perform our duties at the free kick at 1-1. At 2-1 we just hand in a ball. Then we defend very badly against Cody Gakpo. That should not happen," said Ajax coach Erik ten Hag.

"We have made good goals ourselves, two of which are unfortunately rejected. Until we started taking a lot of risks, we did not allow anything. Then it is very annoying that we are here empty-handed. There was more in it."

Kudus won the Dutch Cup last season with Ajax, but injuries have limited his game time this season.

The former FC Nordsjaelland star missed the Africa Cup of Nations early this year due to injury but returned to star as the Black Stars beat Nigeria to qualify for the World Cup.
