Ghana must pray for defeat for England or Uruguay today to reach U20 World Cup knock-out phase

Ghana will find out today whether they have qualified for the knock-out phase of the ongoing U20 World Cup after matches in Group E and Group F are played.

As it stands now South Korea and Mexico are ahead of Ghana in the chase for the four slots for the best third-placed teams.

This means the Black Satellites must pray for Egypt to defeat England by a slim margin in Group E for Ghana to automatically qualify to the next round.

The Ghanaians can also qualify automatically if Uzbekistan defeats Uruguay by a handsome margin in Group F.

Korea are currently the top team in the chase for the four best third-placed teams with four points while Mexico are ahead of Ghana on goal difference in the battle for a place in the last 16 as both countries have three points each.

Any result apart from the results in the two matches in Group E and Group F, means the Black Satellites must whip out their calculators to start some long hours of thinking.

The four best teams among those ranked third will be determined as follows:

a) greater number of points obtained in all group matches; b) goal difference resulting from all group matches; c) greater number of goals scored in all group matches; d) drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.
