Ghana striker Gyan facing two-match Caf ban

Ghana’s first-choice striker Asamoah Gyan is likely to be handed two-match ban by Caf following his sending off during Sunday’s African Cup Nations qualifier against Sudan.

The Sunderland attacker received his marching orders in the 82nd minute of the game played at the Kumasi Baba Yara Stadium.

This means he will miss the crucial qualifiers against Congo in Brazzaville and Swaziland in Accra next year.

Caf hands a mandatory three-match for red cards during matches but they are considered to have served one with their expulsion in the game that the incident occurred in.

Gyan’s absence will be a huge blow for the Black Stars as they seek to qualify for the African Cup of Nations to be held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

But strikers Prince Tagoe and Matthew Amoah will be available to take his place as the misfortune hands Gyan the opportunity the stability to fight for a starting place at his club Sunderland.
