Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu made his injury return for Southampton on Thursday night against Newcastle United in the English Premier League.

Salisu missed the previous two games for The Saints and was back in the starting lineup to face the Magpies in this Round 21 fixture.

Southampton scored first in the 25th minute through Stuart Armstrong before Chris Wood got the equalizer for Newcastle United in the 32nd minute.

Brazilian Bruno Guimaraes scored in the 66th minute to win the game for Eddie Howe's side as Southampton were handed a 2-1 defeat at the St.Mary's Stadium.

Mohammed Salisu, who played the entire duration of the game, completed the most passes (85) in the match.

The former Real Valladolid defender had a 7.6 rating according to FotMob in the game.

The 22-year-old has been a key player for Ralph Hasenhüttl's side this season.

Mohammed Salisu has made 26 appearances for The Saints in the Premier League this season.

According to reports, Salisu is likely to be invited for Ghana's World Cup playoff against Nigeria later this month.

The center-back has rejected call ups in the past to focus on his club career.

However, after discussions with Black Stars coach Otto Addo, Mohammed Salisu is set to honor the invite and join the team for the World Cup playoff against The Super Eagles.

Ghana takes on Nigeria in the first leg on March 25 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium before traveling to Abuja for the second leg on March 29, 2022.
